Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 27, 2026
1. Overview
LocalGig ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who uses our platform — especially minors. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how it is stored, and your rights regarding that information. By creating an account, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to operate the platform. Depending on your account type, this may include:
- Identity information — first and last name, preferred name
- Contact information — email address, phone number
- Location information — city and neighborhood (used to match you with nearby gigs; we do not collect precise GPS location)
- Age — for minor profiles (14–17), age is collected and managed by the parent or guardian
- Profile details — availability, gig preferences, and whether the student has a car and valid driver's license
- Business information — business name, address, and type (for employer accounts)
- Account credentials — email and a hashed (encrypted) password; we never store your password in plain text
- References — student users and parents of minors may voluntarily provide references including the name and contact information (email or phone number) of third parties. By submitting a reference, you confirm that you have obtained the explicit permission of that person to share their information on LocalGig and to be contacted by employers on your behalf. This information is visible to employers who view the applicant's profile.
We do not collect Social Security numbers, government-issued ID numbers, financial account details, or precise GPS location.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information you provide to:
- Create and manage your account
- Match students with gig opportunities in their area
- Enable employers to post gigs and review applications
- Send transactional emails (account confirmations, password resets, application updates)
- Send periodic profile update reminders to parents of minor accounts
- Enforce platform safety rules, including age gating and parental approval flows
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent your personal information to any third party.
4. How Information Is Shared
LocalGig does not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Limited sharing occurs only in the following circumstances:
- With employers you apply to— when an application is submitted, the employer can see the applicant's profile information relevant to the gig.
- Adult student accounts: name, neighborhood, availability, gig preferences, bio, and whether they have a car and valid driver's license
- Minor applicants (14–17): first name, last name, preferred name, age, neighborhood, availability, and gig preferences. The parent or guardian's email is provided as the sole contact channel — the minor's personal contact details are not shared with employers directly.
- With service providers — we use Supabase (database hosting), Resend (transactional email), Contentsquare (user experience analytics), and Google Analytics 4 (traffic analytics). Contentsquare collects anonymized behavioral data such as clicks, scrolls, and page navigation. Google Analytics collects anonymized traffic data such as page views, session counts, and referral sources. Neither service collects passwords or payment information. These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually required to protect it.
- When required by law — we may disclose information if required to do so by a court order, law enforcement request, or other legal obligation.
- In a business transfer — if LocalGig or its assets are acquired by, merged with, or transferred to another company, your personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify registered users by email or in-app notice if such a transfer occurs and a new privacy policy applies to your data.
5. Where Your Data Is Stored
Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase on servers located in the United States. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard bcrypt encryption before storage. We do not store passwords in plain text under any circumstances.
Session authentication uses a secure, httpOnly cookie that expires after 7 days. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising pixels. We do not track users across third-party websites, and we do not respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals because we do not engage in the cross-site tracking those signals are designed to prevent.
We make good-faith efforts to protect your data using reasonable technical and organizational measures. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children's Privacy
LocalGig does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 14. Minors ages 14–17 do not have their own login accounts on LocalGig. Instead, a parent or guardian creates an account in their own name and may add their minor child as a dependent profile. All profile information for a minor — including their name, age, and availability — is entered, managed, and submitted exclusively by their parent or guardian. Minors do not independently access or operate the platform.
Parents and guardians may request removal of any publicly visible content associated with their minor's profile at any time by emailing hello@localgig.space. We will process removal requests promptly. Please note that removal from our platform does not guarantee removal of any content that may have been copied or cached elsewhere.
Parent and guardian credential responsibility. Because minor profiles (ages 14–17) are created and managed under a parent or guardian's account, the parent or guardian is solely responsible for keeping their login credentials — email address and password — secure and confidential. You should not share your LocalGig credentials with your minor child or anyone else, and you should log out of your account after each session on any shared or accessible device.
LocalGig is not responsible for any access to the platform or actions taken on the platform that result from a minor or any other person using a parent's or guardian's account credentials, whether with or without the account holder's permission. If you believe your credentials have been compromised, please reset your password immediately and contact us at hello@localgig.space.
If you believe a child under 14 has provided personal information to us without parental consent, please contact us immediately at the email above and we will promptly delete that information.
7. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we will delete your personal information within a reasonable time, except where we are required to retain it by law or to resolve outstanding disputes.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correction — update inaccurate or incomplete information through your account dashboard
- Deletion — request that we delete your account and associated personal data
- Parental access — parents and guardians may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their minor child's information at any time
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@localgig.space. We will respond within a reasonable time.
9. California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you additional rights regarding your personal information:
- Right to know — you may request details about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, and how it has been used or shared.
- Right to delete — you may request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions required by law.
- Right to non-discrimination — we will not deny you service, charge you different prices, or provide a different level of service because you exercised any of your privacy rights.
LocalGig does not sell personal information. To submit a CCPA request, email us at hello@localgig.space.
10. Third-Party Links
LocalGig may contain links to external websites or services (for example, employer websites or contact email links). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third-party sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit that is not operated by LocalGig.
11. Security Incidents
In the event of a data security incident that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law. Notification will be made by email to the address on your account and/or by a prominent notice within the app. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at hello@localgig.space.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users by email or by displaying a notice in the app. Your continued use of LocalGig after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
13. Contact
If you have questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, please contact us at hello@localgig.space. We aim to respond within a few business days.
