Terms of Service
Last updated: May 27, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using LocalGig in any way, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform. These terms apply to all visitors, registered users, and anyone else who accesses or uses LocalGig.
2. Who Can Use LocalGig
LocalGig is open to four types of users, each with their own eligibility requirements:
- Students — must be 18 or older individuals looking for part-time gig work in their local community. Any misrepresentation or violation of these terms may be reported to local law enforcement.
- Parents / Guardians — must be 18 or older and the legal parent or guardian of the minor(s) they are registering. Minors between the ages of 14 and 17 may participate only through a parent-linked account. By creating a parent account, you confirm you have legal authority to act on behalf of your minor child.
- Businesses — must be 18 or older and operating a legitimate local business. By agreeing to these terms, you may post gigs immediately. Any misrepresentation or violation of these terms may be reported to local law enforcement.
- Households / Families — must be 18 or older and currently residing at the address listed in your profile. By agreeing to these terms, you may post gigs immediately. Any misrepresentation or violation of these terms may be reported to local law enforcement.
You may not use LocalGig if you have been previously suspended or removed from the platform, or if applicable law prohibits you from receiving services of this type.
3. Student & Parent Accounts
Student accounts are for individuals 18 or older who are seeking part-time gig opportunities in their local community. By registering, you confirm that you meet this age requirement. Any misrepresentation of your age is a violation of these terms and may result in immediate account suspension.
Minors ages 14–17 do not have their own accounts on LocalGig. A parent or guardian creates the account in their own name, adds their minor child as a dependent profile, and retains full oversight of all activity — including approving applications before they are submitted to employers. Minors do not independently log in or operate the platform.
Parents and guardians are solely responsible for the security of their account credentials and must not share their login information with their minor child or any other person. LocalGig is not responsible for any unauthorized access that results from shared or compromised credentials. Providing false information about age or guardianship is a violation of these terms and may result in immediate account suspension.
4. Doing Gigs — Student Responsibilities
Independent contractor status. Students and minors who obtain work through LocalGig are independent contractors, not employees of LocalGig or of any employer they connect with through the platform. LocalGig does not supervise, direct, or control the performance of any gig, and nothing in these terms creates an employment, agency, joint venture, or partnership relationship between LocalGig and any user.
Professional conduct. If you accept a gig opportunity, you agree to conduct yourself professionally and carry out your responsibilities honestly and to the best of your ability. You are responsible for representing your skills and availability accurately in your profile and applications.
Taxes. LocalGig does not withhold income taxes, Social Security, or any other employment taxes on your behalf. You are solely responsible for reporting and paying all applicable taxes on income you earn through gigs found on LocalGig. We encourage you to consult a tax advisor if you have questions about your tax obligations.
Driving gigs. If you accept a gig that requires driving, you confirm that you hold a valid driver's license and carry the minimum auto insurance required by law in your state. LocalGig is not responsible for any accidents, injuries, or damages that occur while you are driving for a gig.
5. Employer Accounts (Businesses & Households)
By agreeing to these Terms of Service at sign-up, employers are authorized to post gigs immediately. You are responsible for ensuring that all information you provide — including your identity, business legitimacy, and contact details — is accurate and truthful.
All job postings must be accurate and complete. You agree to describe the role, pay rate, location, hours, and any requirements (such as driving or age minimums) truthfully. Misleading or fraudulent job posts are grounds for immediate removal.
You must not attempt to contact students directly or outside the platform. All initial contact with minor applicants must flow through the platform's built-in mechanisms, which route communications through the student's parent or guardian.
Applicant data confidentiality. Any personal information about applicants that you receive through LocalGig — including names, contact details, and profile information — may be used only for the purpose of evaluating and hiring for the specific gig they applied to. You may not share, sell, or use applicant information for any other purpose, including marketing, solicitation, or any use unrelated to the gig posting.
Account responsibility. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, including actions taken by anyone you allow to access it. LocalGig is not liable for harm resulting from unauthorized account access where you failed to keep your credentials secure.
No guaranteed outcomes. Posting a gig on LocalGig does not guarantee you will receive applications or hire a student. LocalGig makes no representations about the qualifications, reliability, or suitability of any applicant.
6. Applications & Hiring
Minors do not apply to gigs directly. All applications on behalf of a minor must be initiated and submitted by their parent or guardian through the parent's account. The minor plays no active role in submitting an application — the parent or guardian acts entirely on their behalf.
Once an application is submitted, any follow-up contact between the employer and the minor must go through the parent's or guardian's email. Employers agree not to reach out to minors directly through personal phone numbers, social media, or any channel that bypasses parental visibility.
Age-gated gigs (for example, those requiring driving) are automatically hidden from ineligible students. Employers must set accurate age minimums and driving requirements on every applicable posting.
7. Community Standards
LocalGig works because users trust each other. To protect that trust, all users agree to:
- Provide accurate information in profiles, job posts, and applications — no fake names, fake businesses, or misleading credentials.
- Not misrepresent your age or the age of any minor in your household.
- Treat all users with respect. Harassment, discrimination, or threatening behavior of any kind will result in immediate account removal and will be reported to local law enforcement.
- Not attempt to circumvent or undermine any safety feature on the platform, including parental approval flows, age gates, or employer verification requirements.
- Obtain permission before listing a reference. Before adding any person as a reference on your profile, you must have their explicit consent to share their name and contact information on LocalGig and to be contacted by employers on your behalf. By submitting a reference, you confirm that permission has been obtained. Adding someone as a reference without their knowledge or consent is a violation of these terms and may result in immediate account suspension.
- Report any suspicious or harmful activity to LocalGig using the available reporting tools.
8. Intellectual Property
LocalGig and all of its original content, features, and functionality are owned by LocalGig and are protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the platform without our express written permission.
Content you submit to LocalGig — such as profile information, job posts, and reviews — remains yours. By submitting it, you grant LocalGig a non-exclusive license to display and use that content to operate the platform.
9. Limitation of Liability
LocalGig is a connection platform. We facilitate introductions between students and employers, but we are not a party to any agreement or arrangement made between them. We do not employ students or supervise gigs, and we are not responsible for the conduct of any user once a gig begins.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, LocalGig will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of your use of the platform, including but not limited to disputes between users, injuries during gigs, or failure to obtain employment. Our total liability to you for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be excluded by law, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
10. Force Majeure
Neither LocalGig nor any user will be liable for failure or delay in performing obligations under these terms if the failure or delay is caused by events beyond their reasonable control, including natural disasters, government actions, pandemics, or internet service disruptions. Payment obligations are not excused by force majeure.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users — for example, by sending an email or displaying a notice in the app.
Your continued use of LocalGig after any update takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. If you do not agree to the updated terms, you should stop using the platform and contact us at hello@localgig.space to request account removal.
12. Compliance with Child Labor Laws
LocalGig is a passive listing platform. We do not employ, supervise, place, or dispatch any worker, and we are not responsible for ensuring compliance with child labor laws. All users — parents, guardians, and employers — are solely responsible for understanding and complying with all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing the employment of minors, including permitted working hours, required work permits, and age-based restrictions.
Child labor laws vary by state. We encourage all users to review the laws applicable in their state before posting or applying for gigs involving minors (ages 14–17). View child labor laws by state (U.S. Department of Labor) →
13. Governing Law
These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in California.
14. Interactive Computer Service (Section 230)
LocalGig is an interactive computer service provider as defined under the Communications Decency Act, 47 U.S.C. § 230. LocalGig is not the author, creator, editor, or publisher of any job listing, profile, application, review, or other content posted by users of this platform. All such content is the sole responsibility of the user who posted it.
We provide a neutral platform for users to post and discover listings. We do not select, match, dispatch, or place any worker. We do not supervise, endorse, or guarantee the accuracy of any listing or the conduct of any user. Any arrangement made between a household, business, student, or parent through LocalGig is made directly between those parties — LocalGig is not a party to that arrangement.
